my new tongue piercing is coming to 3 weeks and there is a bump at the bottom hole. i dont see a need to change the barbell as the bump makes the barbell fit
better. the bump is red/whitish and i dont seem to be able to think of any reasons. i think it has been like that for about over a week now.

before i was using some alcohol mouth wash listerine, silly i know. think it irritated the **@% outta it. i have changed to a non-alcoholic mouthwash and
i've started gargling sea salt...

normally any discharge is just lymph. if the discharge is coloured then you should definitely go see your piercer and it may be necessary to see your doc for
some antibiotics. if the discharge becomes coloured (green, brown, rusty) then that can be a sign of infection. the piercing site will also become swollen, hot
to the touch and extremely painful.

it's not advisable to mess with the jewellery yourself at this stage, particularly with unsterilised jewellery.

what about the pus, it accumulates through the day and at some point it will ooze out on its own. its starting to take a shade of light green.

could it be a barbell? i have some tongue retainers lying around, is it advisable to use those instead?

aftercare sounds fine, although you may be using too much salt. remember to only use 1/8 teaspoon to a mug of water. bumps can be stupidly stubborn and can
take a while to go down. if you still have the longer jewellery in then this could have caused it. excess jewellery length leads to excess movement, which in
turn leads to irritation and that can cause the dreaded bump. pop into your studio to see about having shorter jewellery fitted.
