Posts: 1 (05/20/09 09:05:55) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None I have had my bellybutton pierced twice. once when i was 16, which after about 4 months never healed and was still painfull so i took it out. the other when i was 17 and pretty much the same reasons. both piercings were very deep and i could never wear the cute little bellyrings(i would always have to get long rounded barbells that were not cute). i have scar tissue from both piercings and now i want to get it peirced again. im wondering if getting the bottom peirced would be the better option instead of going over scar tissue on the top.i am also going to cancun in june, is it giving it enought ime to heal enough for the beach? any suggestions or advice would be great

The minimum healing times are six months to a year and that's if and ONLY if everything goes perfectly - which in the case of deep tissue puncture wounds, rarely happens! No, if you were to get pierced now you would absolutely need to be avoiding swimming in June. Prolonged contact with a body of water is not recommended during the healing period. If you're a big beach person, wait until the autumn to be pierced. The piercing's depth could be a misjudged placement on the part of your piercer, or it could be anatomically correct for you. People's bodies are all different, and some people simply will not be suited to a shallow piercing. Generally the practice is to pierce behind the scar tissue, resulting in an even deeper piercing. I suggest you read up on piercing aftercare techniques and healing, since it sounds like your piercer has not done a good job of educating you. As stated above, MINIMUM healing times on a navel piercing are six months to a year - it can and does take longer than this depending on your own body's healing rate and your aftercare. You can find proper aftercare as sanctioned by the Association of Professional Piercers HERE and HERE. I highly recommend making a good read of them before you attempt to be pierced again.
