Hand Tattoos... |

Ok, so I'm seriously thinking about getting a hand tattoo after having thought about it for well over a year now, I'm aware of it's visibility and
am prepared for employment issues etc. (I'm a musician and a writer, so it's not a problem), but whenever I try and speak to tattoo parlours in my area
about difficulties associated with it, they're unfriendly and don't offer explanations as to why they won't do it, so I'm put off going to
speak to anyone due to the negative response. I've found out a few things online about aftercare difficulties (this will not be my first tattoo by any
means) but is there anything else I should be wary of? Has anyone had a hand tattoo that they can tell me about?

where abouts on your hand you looking, thumb to palm? palm? upperhand? fingers?
i dont personally have any hand tattoos but know people with them and depending on where you want it and how long you take to heal as to whether or not its gunan cause your grief, ie stiff hand etc. but it is temporary. in my opinion if you want it enough you will get it regardless i will say though its great being a muscian but if you need to get a job thats a bit more
public orientated you may find it will cause you issues, depending on the rules and regulations of that company.
i want a wrist tattoo but know i cant becuase of both jobs i have.even though 2 of my tatts are generally either on show or easily visible i know i wouldnt get away with having something that i cant cover up if i need to. |

It's a design that traces from between my little finger/ring finger on my left hand, and comes down the side of my hand in a swirly fashion and has morse
code inscripted around it. I love it, and I want it even if I have to wait for a long time, but if none of the tattoo places around me are willing to talk to
me about it I'm going to find myself slightly hindered!
I'm planning on getting it in a henna colour, and as I'm fairly dark skinner anyway it should be quite subtle (well, more subtle that the big black ones i've got!). Basing it on this, I've rationalised it to my friends and family that if I did get a 'real' job it could be covered up, despite the fact that it would be a complete pain. |

if you have no other tattoos or aren't already a client or visibly tattooed, studios generally won't tattoo you for ethical reasons. similarly they
wouldn't tattoo someone on the neck. i don't mean to sound patronising, but visible tattoos are one of those things that you think you're ready for
but the constant staring, touching, snap judgements and comments can be hard to take and get used to. something with that kind of placement may not have great
longevity either, which is another reason why they may be reluctant.
if you have a studio in mind you can try just bugging and bugging and demonstrate how serious you are about it and they may eventually do it for you. unfortunately, you can't make them do it if they don't want to! I'm Not Mean, I'm Just Not Nice..

well, as I said I am already very tattooed, I just don't have any on my hands and was wondering if there was a specific reason or restriction because I
hadn't had any answers from the tattooists I'd spoken to, and the ones who were willing to do it weren't quite professional enough for me to want
to risk it. I'll still keep trying, it's obviously not something I'm going to take lightly regardless of where they're going to be put!

you know, thinking about it, i vaguely remember reading something about it actually being illegal in some places.. i may be making that up though lol. but
could be something to check into!
"very tattooed" is vague, what may be very tattooed to one person, may not be to another. what kind of coverage and hours are you talking here? if you have a lot of work is there no one artist that has done several pieces that you could ask? I'm Not Mean, I'm Just Not Nice.. |

I like hand tattoos. So that i have a tattoo on my hand.Hand tattoos are the ultimate expression of rebellion in many cases. Often those who are bold enough to
get these have a symbol or message that they want the world to see. Hand tattoos are painful, and this is well known. People who can handle the pain often do
so to prove a point, as with gang tattoos. The underbelly of a small subculture, however, is not the only place this kind of ink can be spotted.

It's illegal to tattoo hands in many places. Some places you need a cosmetic license to tattoo below the wrist and above the neck.
If you're not heavily tattooed, I'm mean, heavily visibly tattooed and/or modified, most places will turn you away. Some artists don't know how to tattoo hands either, and will say that it doesn't heal well to get out of doing the tattoo. Someone will do it for you if you keep searching, but don't go to just anyone. It is your hand and you don't want a crappy tattoo there. |
